MadVentures student coworking space seeks role in Madison’s startup ecosystem

The small hub of student entrepreneurship — a rectangular room with two distinctly IKEA-esque couches, a cluster of desks and bookshelves stocked with “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and “Superfreakonomics” — is tucked into a cluster of administrative offices, tutoring spaces and lounges in a building off East Campus Mall.

“You don’t necessarily have to come in with a business idea,” said Claudia Seidenberg, operations director for MadVentures. “As long as you’re passionate about entrepreneurship, we’ll let you in.”

The idea for the coworking space, which debuted in 2009 and has evolved from a small business incubator to a combination incubator-coworking office to a full-time coworking spot, is to offer entrepreneurially-minded students a place to work — even if, on occasion, they’re just dropping by to do their economics or philosophy reading assignments.
